THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Invocation was done by our new member Hilda Thompson followed by two singers from San Diego High singing songs from “Wicked”. 

SPECIAL EVENTS

STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Carlos Alba.  Following school in Tijuana, Carlos entered the Academy of Finance at San Diego High in 2007.  He is valedictorian of his class with a 4.06 grade average.  He plans to attend San Diego State University as an economics major.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

RACHEL'S HOUSE:  Amy Mahoney, Executive Director for 26 years, was given a check for $1,700.  This money will be used at Rachel’s House for a much needed facelift such as tree trimming, painting, and fence mending.

 

 

 

 

 

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:  Audrey Couran of Del Cerro was welcomed into the Club.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Rotary Bowling Bash will be at the Mira Mesa Bowl from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 22.  The cost is $5 per person which includes bowling, soft drinks and pizza.  Shoes are $3.50 and other drinks and stacks on extra.  An Evite went out to the membership.

  • Joe Marshall announced the spring social will be on May 14 and the theme will be “Friday Night Disco Fever”.  Lynn Hamilton will head up the Auction Teams.  Next meeting will be at Joe’s office on Thursday, Janaury 21.

  • Next week begins the International District Meeting.  Our Club will be hosting a welcome event at the Kansas City Barbecue on Sunday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost is $15 per person.

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Edith Hope Fine and Judith Pinkerton Josephson are full-time writers of children’s books and stories.  Fine’s “Under the Lemon Moon” published by Lee & Low Books, was a Parents’ Choice Award Honor Book.  Josephson’s biographies of Walk Disney and Beethoven won first place in the San Diego Book Awards.

They both met David Lynch – whose work in a colonia of Tijuana, Mexico, was the inspiration for the story of “Armando and the Blue Tarp School” - - in 1985 while freelancing for the LA Times. 

“Armando and the Blue Tarp School” Musical:We are currently in the process to see how we can attend the musical in Encinitas.
