The invocation was led by Jim Mulvaney, who was joined by Linda Jalving, and they broke into a rousing rendition of “When Irish Eyes Are Shining”, which Jim then followed by a somewhat scurrilous ditty sung on his own. The Pledge was lead by Lt. Cmdr Marshall, Admiral Locklear’s Aide.
Paul Marsh had another fine raffle. Karney Stefan found she had a biological step-sister who had been looking for her for many years and just recently found her. Lynn Hamilton bragged on what a great general contractor club member Steve Seligman had been for her – an opinion seconded by testimonials from several more members.
Susan Bleicher closed her business on December 31, and has made a smooth transition. She thanked several members for their assistance. Heather Xitco shared her experience with other Rotarians at the USO President’s day activity, and praised the work of that agency. Mel Gallegos is celebrating his 40th Wedding Anniversary! Our congratulations.
A party of three officers accompanied V. Admiral Locklear. We had also multiple Rotarian visitors, as well as our student of the month, Prince Apreku, from San Diego High. Finally, Nina Stohler a Rotary Exchange Student from Finland joined us.

Our student of the month, Prince Apreku, of the San Diego High School Science and Technology Institute received the award, accompanied by his principal, Ms. Cordero. He spoke of his journey from Ghana to San Diego. He has done a remarkable job, and is already accepted at three four year colleges, including Cal Poly.
Vice Adm Samuel Locklear, Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet was introduced by Joe Ciokin. His speech focused on the importance of oceans and US global oceanic presence. He talked about the challenges of meeting those obligations with a reduced number of ships. The remarkable work of recruiting and training the worlds most diverse fighting force and the ever increasing level of competence they bear was presented. We were proud to be members of his audience.
