Karny introduced the speaker for the day Christian Dick an expert on Green Building and Solar power generation. Christian is a resident of San Diego and Certified in Urban Design from Harvard. He is currently an Executive at Swinerton Corporation. Christian Dick spoke about Commercial Solar cell use and renewable energy. The following points were highlighted and discussed…
- Advantages of going solar instead of conventional.
- The govt. grants available to industry for encouraging the use of renewable energy.
- The challenges faced, such as the type of building, space, cost, usage, credit worthiness etc. that determined the feasibility of installation.
The conclusion was that this was the best time to invest in solar technology since companies had a large inventory due to the economy and were willing to work out great deals that would make the project economically feasible. Given the grants from ARRA, the project size has increased from $2-4 million to a billion in the last 1 year and continues to increase.
The meeting concluded with a few questions to our speaker and with the announcement that next week was dark and the Demotion dinner was scheduled on the 16th of June, Tuesday at 5.30 pm at the University Club. |
