THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Bobbi Spinner-Flack provided the invocation for the day and shared a quote from Albert Schweitzer.  Judy Bambace lead the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Linda Jalving and Jim Mulvaney spearheaded a round of Row, Row, Row, Your Boat to start our meeting off with a light-hearted song. 

SGT. AT ARMS

Gary Green reports that he is honored to have mentored Steve Wells who will be receiving his Blue Badge shortly. Gary is also pleased to be taking a vacation to Puerta Vallarta. Gary also announced that Melissa Chapman had an 8 lb. baby boy on November 16th.  Frank Defrancesco asked for your thoughts and prayers for his business partner who will be having cancer surgery this week.  Jonathan Stone shared that his car was wrecked by falling logs but all is well.  Claire Remillard shared that she has the best husband. They’ve been together for eight years and will be celebrating their one year anniversary.  Karen Green thanked Tanya Reid for the dinners at her house.  Paul Marsh shared that Dr. William Meade was wonderful at the Silver Strand Half Marathon. He saved several lives, literally.  Mel Gallegos shared that at Sharp Health Care they are making progress and will be moving into their offices a week earlier than expected.  Lucy Killea shared that she had a fender bender, but all is well.  Jim Mulvaney shared that his son has a role in “The Grinch who Stole Christmas” and don’t forget about the Walk/Run on Thanksgiving to benefit Father Joe’s work.  Scott Carr announced that we sold a record of $230.00 worth of tickets this week, bringing the marble pull up to $400.  Jim Lauth, Don Munksgaard, and Judy Banbace all pulled clear marbles.

GUESTS

Several potential members were our guests this morning including Wendy Patrick Mozzerrella, Audrey Coleman, Travis Meeks and Brad Maienschein. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Chris Carstens reminded us about the Community Service Committee Hands-On Service Project: Thanksgiving Food Bag Packing, happening Saturday November21 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

  • Tanya Reid reminded us about the going away party for Karny Stefan Wednesday, 18 November at 6:00 pm at Mosaic Wine Bar.

  • Scott Carr thanked Steve Wells for his work on out Website, helping to update the calendar. The calendar can be updated by emailing calendar@sdrotary.com

  • Karen Green reminded us that we are all responsible for updating our information on the website.

  • Sandra Rugg announced that a new requirement for Red Badgers is to get their photo submitted to our website.

  • Jonathan Stone requested information about storage space available to house Holes for Hero’s materials to be sent to himself or Dave Ferguson.

  • Mel Gallegos reports that Rotary is investing $20,000 toward the polio fund. Mel reminds us to write our checks so that we can reach our Foundation goal. Our club goal is for each member to donate at least $125.00 for the Foundation.  Any amount donated above the $125.00 will go toward your Paul Harris Fellowship.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

Sandee Rugg  and Jim Mulvaney welcomed New Member: Don Munksgaard

Don is President of CDM, an Engineering Company.  Don is a new resident of San Diego (formerly Florida) and  already a devoted Charger fan. The Rotarians welcomed Don with a standing ovation.

 

 

 

 

 

STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Judy Bambace introduced San Diego High School Junior from the School of Media, Visual and Performing Arts, Nicholas Meech.  Nicholas was accompanied by his mom, Linda, and his Principal, Consuela Manriquez De Beltran. 


 

 

 

 

 

 

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Dr. Natasha Josefowitz  - Best selling author and Poet, Former Club 33 Member.

Dr. Josefowitz shared quotes from her delightful book, Been There, Done That, Doing it Better. The book tackles the fun and foibles of growing older. Her witty and humorous observations on life, love, family, and the revelations that come with aging made us all laugh, cry, and nod our heads in agreement as Dr. Josefowitz shared her insight about the joyful side of living longer.
