THIS WEEK’S MEETING

In honor of Rotary’s 100th year, Sandra Schrift’s invocation took us step by step through 100 years of life.  George Thomas led the pledge and Linda Jalving conducted us through, In The Good Ol’ Summertime.  Pete McGuire introduced a bevy of guests and VR’s.  We were graced with the volunteers from the Tomorrow Project selling soups, aprons and a variety of other goodies to raise money for homeless women.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Ø      Larry started us off by auctioning some pearl earrings donated by Linda Jalving.  Sig Weitzman was the successful bidder.

Ø      Alex Kwoka was recognized for being part of the new “show,” Carmel Valley Law.

Ø      We welcomed the newest arrival to the Grebing household – details to follow…

George Thomas has been his father’s guest at Rotary many times over, but today he got to be the host as he introduced his dad as a Visiting Rotarian.

Frank De Francesco announced Jim Rome’s show will now be carried by the Mighty 1090 from 9am-noon, M-F.

Ron Erbetta was grateful just for having woken up this morning!

PROGRAM

Joe Bauer was born in a small farmhouse in Tupelo, Mississippi, way before rock 'n roll came on the scene... and yet, rhythm was in his soul... WAIT... WAIT..., that's not Joe Bauer, that's Elvis. Joe never even had sideburns.  Actually, Joe Bauer came out of St. Paul, Minnesota. He spent five years studying to be a Catholic priest and a few more long years at St. Thomas University. After college, Joe ran a small bar on the honor system, drove trucks, counseled delinquent boys, worked for Sweeney Detective Bureau, and was the best night janitor Mr. Donut ever had. Radio was the next logical choice!  He arrived in San Diego in 1975 to team up with Mac Hudson. Together, the team of Hudson & Bauer became San Diego's longest running and most successful morning radio team. Hudson & Bauer tickled the airwaves on 760 KFMB and became synonymous with San Diego.  Besides offering a lot of fun in a world that too often shows us only its somber side, Joe makes dozens of charity appearances each year, calls his mom regularly, and goes to church.  Over the years, Joe has helped raise millions of dollars for local charities, and knows everyone in town. May 9th, 2002, was declared "Joe Bauer Day in San Diego" by Mayor Dick Murphy. He resides in La Jolla with his wife Maryann and occasionally a few of their seven children.

Joe thoroughly entertained us with his bits from Dewey Compost, Mother L. Butterbreast, Dr. Henry Kissinger, Steve Garvey, and many more.  For more information on how to get in touch with Joe, visit his website at http://www.joebauer.com.
