San Diego Breakfast Rotary Club rocks! Our President Maureen, just back from a two-week trip to India as a Rotary ambassador, arrived looking lovely in her Indian clothing. Sharon Sava led an Indian devotion, Pat Cowett led the pledge of allegiance and Rosalie Kramm led everyone in singing “If I Had a Hammer.” Pete McGuire introduced visiting Rotarians, Rotaract guests and others. Maureen and Eileen Henesey also introduced their guests.

Bobbi Spinner-Flack gave a Senior Community Center update.
•
Next, Doug Frost gave the club an award for its past service to the Veteran Stand Down event held each July. Doug gave a short briefing about Veteran Stand Down and the 700 veterans it serves each year.
•
Ron Erbetta gave a report about bequesting to Rotary and encouraged all to consider joining the “Bequest Society” as a sustaining members for a mere $120 per year.
•
Mike Whitehurst made a short announcement about raising funds for the U.S.S. Reagan.
•
Pat Cowett invited those not yet signed up to join others in the club at the upcoming District Dinner being held February 21st (cocktails at Chris Carstens residence at the Harbor Club).
•
Jonathan Majiyagbe, former Rotary International President will be the featured speaker on March 1st.
•
Thank you notes for Bob Watson and Pam Russell were circulated.
•
Joe Marshall encouraged the membership to begin identifying silent auction items they could contribute for the fundraiser event (goal is 100% participation!) and related that the club’s Board members have pledged 1 item each, so we’re off to a good start!

Margaret Oppliger reported on the Career Day at St. Vincent de Paul on February 28th and asked for additional participants.

Maureen reminded everyone that signing in is very important as are reporting make-ups. She pointed out that make-ups are a great way to meet other Rotarians and see how other clubs operate.

Sgt. At Arms Larry Nuffer explained the Olympics lottery and picked the following participants: Frank DeFrancesco = Bronze; Steve Seligmann = Silver and Mystery Rotarian = Gold. If the US outdoes their previous record in these categories, the Rotarian wins!

Chef Larry donated an apron and hat which Tom Sayer snapped up for a cool $30.00.
•
Fines were given to Bill Poirier for officiating at a wedding, to Scott Carr for his appearance on Fox 6 and to Jonathan Stone for the very large spread he and his new bride got in the UT as a result of their pre-nuptial participation in a reality TV show.
Maureen was flush with humility, gratitude, awe, inspiration, and perhaps a bit of frustration, having just returned from her trip to India to participate in the National Innoculation Days. With the help of a slide show, she presented us with but a fraction of the 600+ pictures she took while touring with fellow Rotarians to provide Polio vaccine to children under the age of 5. She described the beautiful children, the abject poverty, the resistance from some parents to administering the vaccine, and unbelievable altruism of some of the nation’s medical practitioners, nuns and others.
