This Week's Bulletin Was Written By Karen Green

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

President Maureen called the meeting to order with an Invocation from Joe Marshall quoting Woody Allen and George Bernard Shaw. Gary Green lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Linda Jalving and Jim Mulvaney lead an energized version of the song of “Zippity Do Da.”

SGT. AT ARMS

Larry Nuffer awarded the ice cream door prize to Dan Cleeves. Fines were levied to Leah Swearingen Millett, Linda Jalving and Eileen Henesey, all of whom have birthdays this week. Lynn Hamilton and her husband just finished a big fund raiser for the Scripp’s Ranch Booster Club and raised money for artificial turf on the high school football field.

GUESTS

Pete McGuire introduced our visitors. Carol Jensen introduced Laura Rado. Maureen Eberle introduced her guest, Dave Kessley, and there were two visiting Rotarians from Club 33 -Maureen Stapleton and Jerry Witt

 

NEW BLUE BADGER

Jay Sener presented Chris Carstens with his Red Badge. Jay announced that Chris is a new member that has jumped into many projects.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. The Demotion Party is at the San Diego Yacht Club on Thursday, June 29th
  2. The District Council Meeting is Tuesday, June 27th
  3. Ron Erbetta announced that our club was #8 in the District for Foundation donations.
  4. New Paul Harris Fellows were announced: Linda Jalving was presented with her third. Dave Ferguson has four and George Mullen was presented with his second.
  5. Lynn Hamilton announced the field trip to Tijuana to the Children’s Hospital and Project Responsibility lead by Steve Waterman.

 

THIS WEEKS PROGRAM

Nancy Vaughan introduced Jeff Schemmel, Athletic Director of San Diego State University. He talked about the progress in the Athletic program at SDSU during the past year. The academic level of the athletes at the university has risen. Much of this improvement in the program has come from the support of President Steve Weber. A donation of $35 million dollars has helped build beautiful new athletic facilities. Currently there are 520 student athletes and 170 of them have 3.2 grad average or better.

Next Week’s Speaker will be Sgt. Richard Schnell of the SDPD’s Hot Team. Have a great week.
