Bulletins - 2006 - 07/12/2006

This Week's Bulletin Was Written By Jenny K. Goodman

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

President Carol Jensen promptly called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m.  Sandee Rugg provided an inspirational Invocation and John Addams lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  We sang two songs this week.  First, "Its a Grand Old Flag" in honor of the Military Stand Down (which occurred this past weekend) and second, "Take Me Out to the Ballpark" in honor of our guest speaker, Tony Attanasio.

Community Services co-chairs presented special donations to the Deafness Research Foundation and the Special Olympics - both deserving organizations.

Paul Harris Fellowships were presented to six different members.  The importance of the Paul Harris Fellowships is really put into perspective when you realize that for each fellowship awarded, four lives are literally saved.  So when you feel overwhelmed by the vast need in the world today and don't feel like your contributions make a difference, remember the Paul Harris Fellowship.  Those four lives impacted certainly believe you can make a difference.

SGT. AT ARMS

Rosalie Kramm began her "shock and awe" tour by fining everyone who had not worn their Rotary pin.  Fair warning, people - wear those pins and badges!!!

GUESTS

We had several guests today, including the daughter of member Sandra Schrift who was visiting us from Costa Rica.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Don't forget about the District Council Meeting on August 1, 2006.  Participants from the Youth Exchange Musicamp will be present and it will be a great District Council Meeting to attend.  Red Badgers should use this opportunity to fulfill one of their Blue Badge requirements.
  • This month's Board meeting will be on Tuesday, July 18th (instead of Monday July 17th).  The meeting will be at the multi-purpose room on the 4th floor at 2655 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 450. The building is a four story brick with ONE SOURCE REALTY on the top. Just off the Qualcomm exit of I-8. Our parking lot abuts the parking lot for Dave and Busters. Park on the east side of the building.  Thanks to Lynn Hamilton for making this venue available to us.

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Frank DeFrancesco introduced our guest speaker, Mr. Tony Attanasio and presented him with special lip balm.  Mr. Attanasio is a sports agent representing many big time atheles, including Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners.  Mr. Attanasio presented a colorful and entertaining dialog giving us an inside glimpse of the business of sports. The complexity of the sports contract necessitates significant advise from not only sports agents, but also financial experts.  Mr. Attanasio's firm uses a team approach employing the necessary experts to provide the best advise possible for its clients.  Mr. Attanasio is understandably proud of the fact his clients do not end up destitute after their playing career is over.  Mr. Attanasio also made it abundantly clear that Italians, while being World Cup champions, are not to be blamed for pasta or pizza!   We enjoyed Mr. Attanasio's sense of humor and trust all of his comments were taken in stride and in the spirit of good fun in which they were intended.  Indeed, I think Mr. Attanasio is an equal opportunity insulter!  Thanks for the entertaining presentation.  Next week's speaker will be Ronne Froman, Chief Operating Officer for the City of San Diego.
