President Carol Jensen brought the meeting to order at 7:30am. The invocation was made by Sandee Rugg and defined what was a success in God's eyes. Mel Gallegos lead the Flag Salute. Steve Espino lead us in a passable rendition of "What a Wonderful World."
We ran out of time for Rosalie's fines and fundraising so hang on to those tickets until next week.
Mary Engles and Pete McGuire announced the numerous guests we had this morning including two founding Rotarian members from the Isle of Man. We have five proposed new members attending as guests so we anticipate inducting them in the near future.
Lynn Hamilton introduced her guest that spoke about the Power of Love organization. The POL organization supports community responses to the AIDS crisis in Africa. We gave them a starter check for $4300. Zambia is one of the poorest neighborhoods with 60-70% of the children being HIV positive. The organization helps mothers to care for their children and the children of others. All monies are used for medication and food.

-
Jonathan Stone announced that we still need sponsorships and foursomes for the golf fundraiser. Many thanks to the beautiful flyer that Scott Carr designed.
-
Rick Logan reminded everyone about the Tijuana home building. He invited everyone to come out.
-
Joe Ciokin was invited to speak on Rush Limbaugh. The Veteran’s Stand Down 2006 was the best ever. He let us know that there is going to be a teardown and ribbon cutting for the new Father Joe Village.
Today’s speaker was Dr. Moser who is Chief of Tuberculosis & Refugee Health Services for San Diego County. She spoke about the project Puentes de Esperanza. Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) threatens communities across the globe. It is difficult and expensive to cure and the resources to fight these strains do not exist in many areas of the world. This is the situation in Baja California, where an estimated 50-100 individuals are afflicted. Unable to get curative treatment, MDR patients in Baja California become increasing ill over a period of years during which they are able spread disease within border communities and areas in the interior of both countries. The spread of MDR-TB across international boundaries has pushed industrialized nations to recognize this disease as a looming global public health crisis. The Puentes de Esperanza project will develop a binational model for sharing professional expertise and demonstrate success in providing access to vital services for patients with the most difficult forms of TB.
