President Jensen called the meeting to order in the Edwin D. McKellar Pavilion of Flight of the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The initial absence of a microphone, coupled with the occasional roar of commercial jets on final approach to Lindberg Field, presented a bit of an audio challenge. However, everybody adapted, and in a way, this was a fitting background for the meeting.
Rosalie Kramm announced Chris Carstens as the winner of lasts week’s football contest. Chris picked the “under” of the total points line for the Monday Night game. This was not because he lacked confidence in the Chargers ability to score points, but because he knew the Chargers defense would shut down the Raiders. Congratulations Chris, and good answer!
Jonathon Stone introduced about four or five visitors from the well-attended audience.
This is the final reminder for the upcoming Red Badge event on September 14th at Altitude atop the Marriott in the Gaslamp District.

Please bring your book donations to our regular weekly meetings and give them to Steve. If you have a large number of books, Steve will make arraignments with you.
Nancy Vaughan introduced this week's speaker and host, James Kidrick, Vice President of Operations for the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Jim commented on the name change from Aerospace, to Air & Space. The 103-year history of flight celebrated by the museum now points to a future that will increasingly include commercial space travel. The story to be told is about air and space, not just aerospace. Jim spoke about the mission to educate and inspire students to excel in technology, mathematics, science and engineering. The museum is currently working with a number of local high schools in this regard. Technology advances are also helping the museum to bring exhibits, content and programs to visitors in new ways. The museum leadership is committed to forward thinking, which remains a constant theme in the evolution of flight. Before we departed on a guided tour of the museum exhibits, complete with informative narration, Jim described the new Business Leaders Breakfast series. This is an opportunity to meet and hear interesting speakers talk on a variety of subjects. On September 20th Vern Raburn, President and CEO, of Eclipse Aviation will talk about his beginnings at Microsoft, and eventually him becoming a founder of the Very Light Jet industry. The talk is titled “Never Give Up”. For registration information, and to learn more about the San Diego Air & Space Museum, http://sandiegoairandspace.org.
