The meeting was called to order by President Jensen, who had a bit of trouble quieting down the raucus Wednesday morning crowd without a microphone. After the audio situation was corrected, Mel Gallegos brought an insightful invocation which included a brief moment of silence for departed Doyle Dannenberg, whom Mel referred to as “the true Mr. Rotary.” The invocation was followed by the pledge of allegiance led by Mary Engles. The pledge was followed by a rendition of Route 66 that did not offer any “kicks” but did leave you looking for the fastest route out of the University Club.
Sergeant at arms Rosalie Kramm held a slightly confusing raffle focused on this Sunday’s soon to be victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The winners picked various options for who and how points would be scored. Go Bolts!
The club had eight non-Rotarian visitors (3 of which were Rotarians by the end), one Rotaract member, and three visitors from Club 33.

Jonathan Stone and Rosalie Kramm introduced their new “Sign In or Pay” campaign. Members will be fined $5 for the first offense, $10 for the second, and $15 for the third. So don’t forget to sign in!
-
Gary Green asked for Tee Sponsors for the upcoming golf tournament. Those interested can contact Gary or any of the other members of the fundraiser committee.
-
Maureen Eberle announced the upcoming district council meeting and sent around a sign up sheet. She encouraged all those that could to attend and learn more about the Rotary Foundation’s programs and projects.
-
Rick Logan reminded all about Tijuana Home Building on October 7th, there are still some open spots so give Rick a call.
The club welcomed three new members today. Caroline Chen introduced Kim Vellekamp. Steve Seligman introduced Carrie Leising and Jonathan Stone introduced Dr. Paul Marsh. We look forward to getting to know you all.
Nancy Vaughan introduced the day’s speaker, Opthmalogist, published photographer, and Route 66 historian Dr. Blake Shaw. Dr. Shaw just recently moved his practice from Coronado to Eastlake. He is an accomplished photographer, having photos in such publications as National Geographic. You can take a look at some his photography on his aptly titled website,www.blakeshawphotography.com. Dr. Shaw led us down Route 66 with his beautiful pictures, colorful stories, and an obvious passion for the old road.
