Week's Bulletin Was Written
By Christopher Carstens, Ph.D
The meeting was called to order by President Carol Jensen. Scott Silver Hill lead the invocation.
Nancy Vaughn and Maureen Eberle celebrated birthdays – No ages were disclosed, but somebody at the back of the room tried to start a pool with the over/under for their combined ages at 47. (We are still the Youngest and the Cutest Rotary in the Whole World.) As the Sergeant at Arms was not available, all members were advised to keep their money ready for next week, when the general fines and fun will resume.
There was a lengthy list of guests, most notably Bob Watson, the Past District Govenor, Philippe Lamoise, current District Governor, and Karl Lauer, the Assistant District Governor. Werner Regal was the visitor from furthest away, and he shared a bit of information about his home club in Germany. Bridget Johnson, president of our affiliated Rotaract was there as well.

The Rotary Divas will hold a Jewelry Party on November 29th. Jewelry Addicts, remember, this is NOT a twelve step meeting. You know who you are, and you have been warned! Sounds like a good time.
-
All gifts for the kids in Tijuana through Project Responsibility should be brought in on or before the December 6th meeting. The truck will go directly from the meeting to deliver the presents. Members are urged to stay within the guidelines when making purchases.

Bridget Johnson and Andy Gerber announced that Rotaract’s Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes fundraiser will be held Friday, December 1st at Karma Lounge at On Broadway (downstairs) at 615 Broadway, San Diego, CA. This is a great chance for Rotarians to show up and support their work. Tickets are available on line.
Mary Dawe introduced our Student of the Month from San Diego High School, Altaida Brambilla. A senior with a grade point average of 3.5, she hopes to go to CSU Long Beach and study fashion merchandising. Congratulations to Altaida for her achievements.
As it is Foundation Month, District Governor Philipe Lamoise made a presentation on the work of the Foundation and the lofty goals for the future. A special ceremony was held, in which a series of Paul Harris Fellowships were presented in the names of individuals involved in important causes supported by our club. The presentation filled all present with respect for the work of those individuals, as well as pride for our club. Carol Jenson introduced and presented a fellowship to Georgette Coffee, of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Tana Cleaves presented a fellowship to Paul Downey of Senior Community Centers, Frank DeFrancesca presented one to Ralph Strong of Deafness Research, Joe Ciokin presented a fellowship to Al Pavich of Veterans Village of San Diego, and Maureen Eberle did as well to Sharon Lawrence of Voices for Children.
Bob Watson presented on last year’s amazing Rotary success story, Rotarians at Work. The program, originating in our District, is already moving worldwide. This year, Rotarians at Work will take place on April 28th, and clubs are urged to find a new project each year, rather than doing a repeat of last year’s program. “Let’s touch new lives each year,” Bob urged us.
The club is dark November 22 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We’ll see everybody again on November 29th.
