The meeting was called to order by President Carol Jensen. Joe Cioken introduced and welcomed the men and women in the U.S. Navy who were injured in Iraq and are currently being treated at a San Diego medical facility. At the end of the welcome, Jay Sener read a quote by Calvin Coolidge that reflected the symbolism of the American Flag. Jay Sener then lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Greg Sinser from Club 33 played the piano while Rosalie Kramm led the group in singing Jingle Bell Rock.
Rosalie Kramm held raffles exclusively for the seniors who were visiting us and for the military. The winners received a Nordstroms gift card, and candy.
Peter McGuire introduced several guests, including Rotaract members, seniors from the Senior Community Center, injured soldiers, and visiting Rotarians. Carol Jensen introduced Jennifer from the Armed Services YMCA. Jennifer talked about her role, which includes, among other things, organizing events and activities for the wounded troops who are being medically treated in San Diego.
Oliver Leon from the Monarch School was introduced as the student of the month. The president of the school also spoke and mentioned that the school’s test scores have improved.
After a long wait, Lex Harrison and Karen Busey were inducted into the club. George Mullen then gave a short speech about community service and the duties of a Rotarian. Welcome to both of these members.

Mike Whitehurst, president-elect, announced next years officers and directors. Notably, Mel Gallegos and Jonathan Stone were nominated (elected) as President and Sergeant at Arms, respectively.

Carol Jensen called Alex Kwoka to talk about the latest community service project. Alex mentioned that on January 5 and 6 there will be a project in Ensenada where participants will pass out bags containing, among other things, blankets and socks to Ensenada community members. The president from the Bonita Rotary club talked about one of the Rotary International projects. Specifically, there is a medical team that will travel throughout Africa and provide medical services. R.J. (I think from the Bonita club) is our District 9200 representative.

Carol Jensen introduced Paul Downey of the Senior Community Centers. A group of seniors accompanied us for breakfast. Paul talked about the fact that they prepare between 1200 and 1300 meals per day 365 days of the year. Bobbi Spinner-Flack then presented a check to the Senior Center so that they could buy soup.

On behalf of the club, Carol Jensen gave thanks to the breakfast staff for all of their hard work throughout this past year.

Rotary is dark for the next two weeks.
There was not a formal program today. To conclude the meeting, the club sang “Here comes Santa Claus." Happy Holidays to all. See you in the new year on January 10, 2007.
