Our speaker was, Cecile Bereal, President and founder of RMA Management Alliance, Inc. and she discussed “Intergenerational Issues in the Work Place” or “Who’s on First?” Ms. Bereal identified four different age groups populating today’s workforce, Generation Y’ers, Generation X’ers, Baby Boomers and Traditionalists. Each grew up under remarkably different conditions and developed attitudes and perspectives that are startlingly different, especially when thrown together in the same workplace. Speaking from the leading edge of the Baby Boom generation I confess to being surprised at the differences between the generations and the complexity those differences produce for anyone trying to motivate, manage or simply crate a productive work environment. It was truly an enlightening discussion.
