President Carol started the meeting at 7:30am. Larry Nuffer read us an Irish invocation. Joe explained the meaning of the US flag before we did our salute. Linda Jalving and Rosalie Kramm were our songmeister duos and led us in a Mary Poppins favorite . . . Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Whew!
Our sergeant at arms, Rosalie Kramm, raffled off an item to our winning resident gardener, Frank De Francesco. In exchange he donated 8 large zucchinis. Jonathan Stone auctioned off member Jack Gilbert’s new (and first) book, Strengthening Ethical Wisdom: Tools for Transforming Your Health Care Organization. Pete McGuire introduced our guests and fellow Rotarians.
Gary McElroy had the pleasure of introducing his daughter, Jennifer McElroy as our newest member. Jennifer is an aspiring lawyer and plans to be an active Rotarian.
Maureen Eberle presented a Paul Harris membership to outgoing President Carol Jensen from our club. A standing ovation followed.
Linda Jalving invited us to a concert on July 1 at the Christ Church Unity to hear her “bon Voyage” concert before her tour ensemble heads out to Iceland, Sweden, and Finland. Linda will be the featured soprano soloist on this tour. Congratulations!

R.J. Salus was one of our GSE sponsored scholars who reported to us on his trip and experience in East Africa (Kenya and Uganda) Great PowerPoint slides. The experience changed his life.

Steve Waterman – thanked us for the $17,000 matching grant approved for TB drug resistance programs in Baja. They are partnering with a Tijuana Rotary Club.

Guest Liana Ching (Francis W. Parker graduate) spoke to us about another International program called “Engineers without Borders” at USC that is involved in projects globally. Recently, they went to the Honduras to build a water pipe line for a small village to provide electricity and improved water quality. Caroline Chen made a presentation to Liana and her organization.

Bobbi presented a check to Lorie Van Tilburgh on behalf of Southern Caregivers for $2000.

Paul Downey accepted a check of $750 for Senior Community Center. He graciously acknowledged our club for all that we do and contribute to the Senior community. He even paid a “fine” for his speech.

Al Pavich thanked us for the VVSD. Rotarians at Work Day project – We were painters. He also mentioned our participation in Stand Down.

President Carol presented a check for $1200 to Linda Riley of the Type 1 Diabetes Organization.
