Bulletins - 2007 - 10/03/2007

This Week's Bulletin Was Written By Margaret Oppliger

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

The meeting was called to order by President Mike Whitehurst who also led us in the Pledge. Jeremy Larson led the invocation and Jim Mulvaney led us in song.

SGT. AT ARMS

Paul Marsh took care of ‘Brags & Bitches’ in Jonathan’s absence. A few honest people admitted to birthdays and anniversaries.

GUESTS

Pete McGuire introduced guests and visiting Rotarians, including Assistant governor Carl Lower and two members of Rotaract. It was good to see Lou Scanlon do a makeup with us this morning. Lou continues to warn us about Coronado’s giant speed trap. Don’t say he didn’t tell you!

THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

Our speaker today was Carl Lower, Assistant Governor who spoke about the Rotary Orphans Relief Project in South Africa. There are 850,000 orphans whose parents are dead and these children are trying to run their households, such as they are. Our Rotary District is helping the local Rotary District in South Africa which has established programs to feed these children and teach people within their communities to help themselves.

Carl asked us for financial support for this project and to considering joining Rotary when they visit this area again in Sept. 2008. Our District giving goal is $125pp this year.
