President Whitehurst called a packed meeting to order promptly at 7:30 a.m. Our student of the month joined Jim Mulvaney in singing a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. Everyone was looking at each other wondering who this young lady was because her voice was so powerful. What a treat.

Guests were too numerous to recount. There was a awesome energy to today’s meeting with so many new faces and interest in our club.

The Golf Tournament netted 76K for the various charities our club supports. The club presented the several of our favorite military related charities with checks to assist them in their endeavors with wounded vets.
The Student of the Month is Celine Goodbody. Nancy Vaughn made a heartfelt introduction of this wonderfully talented young lady. Nancy recognized the last name Goodbody since that was her stepfather’s name. It turns out that Nancy’s stepfather was Celine’s grandfather. Nancy was clearly moved and pleased to present the Student of the Month award to Celine. Not surprisingly, Celine wants to pursue a career in music and with her vocal capabilities and obvious personal ambition, we have no doubt she will succeed.
George Mullin introduced this week’s speaker. Dan Lyle gave a polished and entertaining presentation on the Rugby USA Seven’s Tournament that will be held here in San Diego on February 9-10, 2008 at Petco Park. Dan has been all over the world playing rugby and exudes a passion for the sport. San Diego is going to be an integral part of building a rugby nation. There will be 16 nations represented at the tournament. The Sevens format of rugby is a shorter game than a normal regulation game and there will be significant television coverage with over 400 million anticipated viewers worldwide. Rugby is the second largest sport in the world. It is a hooligans game played by gentlemen while soccer is a gentlemen’s game played by hooligans. The tournament will include all day fan festivals styled after the NFL Experience. San Diego will be the fourth stop out of eight. It should be an interesting event and he encourages us all to come down to Petco Park in February to check it out.
