Bulletins - 2007 - 10/24/2007

This Week's Bulletin Was Written By Jenny K. Goodman

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

President Whitehurst rang in the meeting shortly after 7:30 a.m.  Jay Sener provided the invocation and Pres. Whitehurst lead us in the pledge of allegiance.  We sang America the Beautiful.  Pres. Whitehurst gave us an update on fire evacuees in the club and also the efforts of the Poway Rotary Club to assist many of its affected members.  There have been offers from Rotary clubs throughout the Country asking if they could be of assistance proving once again that Rotary Shares.

SGT. AT ARMS

Because of the generosity of our members for the Holes for Heroes event and to help ease the stress everyone is feeling because of the fires, Jonathon Stone declared no fines today.  Karen Green though did brag about her hole in one.  Ken Juen and Jay Sener announced their respective anniversaries.

GUESTS

Not a lot of guests today but we did have one visitor from the U.K.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • The Washington Elementary School Clean-up was a big success and we hope to continue our partnership with this downtown school.
  • The Dead Seas Scroll Event is likely being re-scheduled.   Karen Green will contact those who signed up.
  • The Red Badge event is also being post-poned with a new date to be determined.
  • Holes for Heroes Event was a great collaborative effort and although final numbers are not yet in, it is likely we exceeded our goal.  Jonathon Stone will be the chairperson for next year and he is already getting on people to bring in monetary sponsors and solicit donations for next year's event.
  • Sign-ups are taking place for the Foundation Gala on November 17th.  You can sign up on the District website.   See the Links tab.

THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER

Bradley LittleGeorge Mullin introduced this week's speaker, Bradley Little, from RJ Watkins & Co.  Mr. Little gave us the inside scoop on what is really happening with the IRAQ reconstruction.  He talked about the difficulties of managing the politics of the three predominant sects Shiite, Kurd and Sunni.  Over 22.5 Billion has been invested in the reconstruction alone.  Hate between Sadr and Sistani supporters is the primary causes of conflict and violence in Iraq.  Criminal enterprises and corruption is a huge problem right now.  The insurgents have the overreaching philosophy to expel western influence and establish Sharia Law.  90% of insurgents are from Saudia Arabia.  Mr. Little provided an enlighting and interesting discussion.
