Week's Bulletin Was Written

The meeting was called to order by our new president, Mel Gallegos. Mel quickly established his presence. This will be a special year. Tears will be shed. Rotarian passions will be inflamed. We will be moved to action. Mel will wear big purple hats. Oprah will be jealous.
Our invocation was read by Pete McGuire, and Pat Cowett led us in the Pledge. The big three, Linda Jalving, Jim Mulvaney and Mary Engels, evoked rousing song.
Paul Marsh ably took over as Sergeant at Arms. Raffles were held, fines were collected, all was well. Mike Lewis got a full page in the UT. Martin Blair assured us that the future of Barbecue is not as bleak
as we had feared – they are coming back. Club members provided a license plate and a bra to start off the redecoration project.
Pete Mcguire introduced many guests, and the furthest traveler joined us from Norfolk, VA.
July 11th is Rotary Padres Night. Sign up on the district website.

July 26th is scheduled for a Membership Seminar by the District, scheduled at the Braille Institute. Talk to Mel or Susan Bleicher if you are interested in attending, or check the District Website.

Gary Greene reminded us that Operation Stand Down is scheduled for this month and on July 12th and 13th we are serving breakfast. Signup sheets were passed around. Directions to the encampment near San Diego High School are found on the website, www.vvsd.net. Frank De Francesco will be lead on Saturday, and Dave Ferguson will head up the action on Sunday.
Jeannie Merril made us all proud as she received a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Jeff Hogue will be having surgery next week. The outlook is positive. Jonathan Stone is coordinating meals for members who would like to participate in providing dinners.

There was no speaker as this was the annual club assembly. The theme of the year is “Make Dreams Real” and Mel emphasized that we can do things to help children and we willOur membership goal is five new members. Each year we lose 15 through attrition, so meeting this goal means recruiting 20 members during the year. Membership chairs are Susan Bleicher and Jeremy Larson. We want to increase attendance at District Events by 10%

We hope to give a local public school a subscription to The Rotarian.

Program Chair Karney Stefan announced that the speakers are booked well into October. Her hope is to limit presentations by non-profits to one a month.
Sheila Hardin is Vocational Services Chair. Vocational Services day is in October.
Gidgit Rangel and Karen Bucey will chair Public Relations, and they have a number of project afoot.
Scott Carr and Bobbi Skinner-Flack, leading Community Services, will be working on identifying a number of hands on projects this year, hoping to schedule one a month.
International Activities, lead by Leah Swearingen and Gary Greene outlined a lengthy set of proposed activities. Mel set a goal of $125 per member donations to annual program fund.
