THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM
Jeannie Merrill introduced our speaker, Louis Frick, Executive Director for Access to Independence. ( a2i) This organization has provided resources to people with disabilities for over 32 years. Louis shared that he became a paraplegic at the age of 19. During the 70’s our society and laws changed and provided more opportunities and access to disabled people. Counseling programs and advanced technology now make it possible for disabled people to live and contribute to society. “Independent Living” provides programs and tools for options in making choices on how to direct their lives. The organization has a strong connection with Seniors and the 20% of our San Diego disabled population. Obstacles to overcome is society’s attitudes, lack of awareness and affordable housing.
The meeting was adjourned promptly at 8:30 a.m.
