This Week's Bulletin Was Written By Pauline Lim-Endresen

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

The meeting for “The Best Rotary Club in the District” was called to order by President Mel Gallegos. Invocation was given by Mana Mahfoozi, quoting Peter Gabriel’s inspiring song, Don’t Give Up.

SGT. AT ARMS

Scott Carr clinched a new video recording deal with some lawyers.  Mike announced a 25th year anniversary.

GUESTS

Welcome to returning guest Jeff Olsen and a few Rotarians.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Team of Pat Cowett and Sandra Schrift will be leaving for Ecuador this week.

  • Jonathan Stone and Dave Ferguson landed a spot on a TV show and will be promoting our upcoming Holes for Heroes Golf event.

  • See Chris Carstens for USD football tickets for Nov 1 game.

  • Press release to announce our District Rotary Clubs’ fundraising and humanitarian achievement. A total of 36 Rotary Clubs in our District, including ours, raised a total of $50,000. This was matched by the Caster Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and another Rotary District in Canada, for a grand total of $600,000 used to fund a new microcredit and microfinance program in a village in Ghana, operated by Opportunity International. We are proud to be a part of this continuing effort to fight and reduce poverty via microfinance. This program now has over 3,000 participant borrowers, positively impacting over 20,000 women and children, and still growing.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

A Big Welcome Home to returning charter member Chris Jacobs. He’s a real Gem. Really. He’s a 3rd generation jeweler, a gemologist and owns one of only 2 certified gemology centers in San Diego.
