THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

We were very honored to have our new District Governor Dave Breeding (Fallbrook) give us a moving talk about how he got involved in Rotary and, in particular, with Rotary’s push to eradicate Polio. DG Breeding talked about his first-hand family experience with Polio and the trips he has taken to India. He also recognized our very own Maureen Eberle as an inspirational force behind his involvement with this mission.

DG Breeding also discussed RI’s theme this year—“Building communities and Bridging Continents”—and also recognized our Club for the great work it is doing in that regard.

DG Breeding also talked about his beloved Fallbrook and showed us a short video about its beauty. This year’s District Fall Conference will be held at Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook on October 21-24. The Conference is emphasizing Polio Eradication and the theme is “Our Town.” Dr. Peter Salk (son of Dr. Jonas Salk) is the featured speaker. DG Breeding also encouraged Rotarians to stay in Fallbrook during the event and noted that Rotarians in Fallbrook were opening their homes for us to stay. You can get more information on the event at the District’s website (www.rotary5340.org) and also register on line. It promises to be a great event.

Finally, DG Breeding emphasized the importance of giving to the Annual Programs Fund, which finances all of Rotary’s humanitarian efforts and where our matching grants come from. The goal is to get each member to give $100 toward this cause every year. An easy way to do this is to sign up for an automatic withdrawal of $10 per month from a checking or savings account. DG Breeding passed out authorization forms and encouraged everyone to give those to Karen Green as our Foundation Chair.
