SGT-AT-ARMS
Sergeant At Arms Pauline Getz got a laugh referring to her clergyman's comment that the Episcopal Church outreach is sort of like "Rotary with Vestments"! Alan Talbot bragged his law firm through merging is now one of the largest. Gary Sirota bragged about his son turning 1 year. Gary Green bragged about going next week on an African Safari.
SPEAKER
Jim Mulvaney introduced his friend and Guest Speaker Alice Bourke Hayes, Ph.D., President of the University of San Diego. Dr. Hayes began her lively talk boasting USD has the only Spanish Renaissance parking garage in the U.S.! She then explained her next major project will be the construction of the $46 million USD Center for Science and Technology building which she is raising funds for. Dr. Hayes defined USD as primarily a teaching institution producing the future leaders and jobholders who will make the future breakthroughs in various fields. She retained our interest in the balance of her talk with a fable about "what makes frogs jump", citing the various scientific and even ethical considerations involved (in the view of educators, artists, and scientists) in this, when analyzed, "complex" activity.
