THIS WEEKS MEETING

Opening:   Mr. David Archambault called the Wednesday morning January 16, 2001 meeting of the San Diego Breakfast Rotary Club to order at 7:35 AM.  Mr. Archambault acted in the absence of President Melissa Blackburn who missed the meeting due to a professional obligation.

Pledge:      The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag was led by Mr. Keith French

Invocation: The invocation was led by Ms. Vanessa DuBois.  Ms. DuBois is Rotary’s Ambassadorial Scholar currently visiting from France.

Guests:      Mr. Archambault introduced the following guests:

Ø      Ms. Ann Fontanille from Paris, France.  Ms. Fontanille is studying law at USD.

Ø      Mr. Chris Martinez from Rotaract

Ø      Mr. Victor Ramirez from Rotaract

Ø      Mr. Kappan Giblen is a guest of Membership Chairman Mr. Mike Jones

Visiting Rotarians:  Mr. Archambault introduced the following visiting Rotarians:

Ø      Mr. Fritz Kunzel from Club #33

Ø      Mr. Mark Morris

Ø      Mr. Lou Killean from Tallahassee, Florida

Announcements

Mr. Archambault made the following announcements and subsequently asked for announcements from the membership and obtained the following responses:

Ø      Mr. Archambault announced that the next Board meeting would be hosted by President Melissa Blackburn on 02/21/02 at 5:15 PM at the law offices of Mulvaney, Kahan, and Barry.

Ø      Mr. Archambault also announced that there is a need to host Rotary’s male foreign exchange student from Brazil for a 2-3 month period.

Ø      Ms. Lynn LaBreche-Hamilton again announced that she and her husband would be hosting another sushi dinner party at their home on Friday, 02/01/02.  Cost is $30/person and an RSVP via a signup sheet would be greatly appreciated.

Ø      Mr. John Turpit announced that he has obtained one(1) team (new member Bill Poirier and his wife) already for the Kids at Heart Tutoring Program and is still seeking for a second.  Sessions are Tuesday evenings through the end of the school year.

Ø      Mr. Alan Talbott announced that there would be a Fund Raiser meeting at 530 “B” Street at 5:30 PM.

Ø      Ms. Pat Moore announced the Mexican Home Building Project dates of 02/23/02, 04/27/02, and a third date to be announced.

Fines, Brags, and Bitches

Sgt.-at-Arms Frank DeFrancesco had no fines for public recognition, but fined Mr. Jim Lauth for new facial hair.  Sgt. Frank announced a birthday for Mr. Joe Ciokon and an anniversary for Mr. Keith French (29 years).  Several brags ensued from numerous members.

Featured Speaker

Mr. Dave Donnelly introduced Ms. Debbie Bermont, the principal of Source Communications.  Ms. Bermont is a marketing consultant and professional speaker and through Source Communications provides clients with expert marketing advice by developing simple programs that are easy to implement, monitor, and change.

Ms. Bermont spoke on the “Five Secrets To Marketing Success In A Tough Economy”.  She indicated that successful marketing could be summed through relationship building and developing trust.  She emphasized, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
