CALL TO ORDER

President Melissa Blackburn called the meeting to order at approximately 7:30 a.m.  Gary Green led the pledge, Jennifer Cusick delivered the invocation, and Linda Jalving led us in, “Downtown.”  We switched our format around in order to accommodate our 4-Way Speech Regional Finalists.

4-Way Speech regional finalists

Pictured here are our four Finalists in the Regional 4-Way Speech Contest.  From left to right, we have Yuanxin Zhou from La Jolla High School, Amy Keough from Abraxas High School, Meg Sheehan and Caleb Winn from Rancho Bernardo High School.  The notable judges for the competition were, Mark Goldstein President of the San Diego Humane Society, Paul Downey, CEO of Senior Community Centers, Sgt. David Rohowits of the San Diego Police Department, and Justice Richard D. Huffman of the 4th District Court of Appeal.  We all empathized with the task of the judges for each speech was worthy of 1st place.  In the end, however, Yuanxin Zhou took first place with Meg Sheehan only 1 point behind.  All four are to be congratulated for a job well done.  The first place finisher (and possibly the 2nd place as well) will compete in the finals at the District Council meeting on April 9th at the La Jolla Marriott.
