In
Memory of 9-11
It
all began as a beautiful September day
With
the normal bustle of our routine jobs
Morning
coffee, meetings and ordinary calls
But
at 8:47 all Hell broke loose – it must be some sort of bombs
First
Tower One, then Tower Two
Then
another plane was crashed
Then
fire, debris and choking smoke
Oh
My God - what horror has been amassed
Then
both towers fell before our eyes
The
world was stunned and stared in disbelief
As
the travesty in New York consumed our being
Then
Washington, DC and Pennsylvania –
Two more sites of grief
2,800
dead and ten times wounded family and friends
Our
Nation was changed forever by these fire flashes
As
in numbed shock we stood watching
Trying
to make sense of these devastating crashes
For
the agony forever witnessed by our eyes
And
forged in the pictures of that horrible day
For
all those affected in this country’s worst disaster
The
horror of 9-11 will hopefully in our minds forever stay
For
all the innocent life lost
Exactly
one year ago today
It’s
in their memory and for their loved ones
Is
why, today, we bow our heads to pray
But
the lessons of these horrific events
Has
made each of us realize oh so clear
Just
how important our families and loved ones are
And
the gift that we call freedom - has now been made so dear
In
remembrance of their courage, fight and heroism
In
the obvious and in countless acts unseen
In
memory of the war made on our Country
Is
why today we wear this patriotic theme
And
may the world know we are all united
To
help rebuild hurting families in their pain
And
our Oath to you the victims
Is
that not one of you has died in vain
For
the outfall of this God forsaken massacre
Will
be to prove that love and caring will prevail
A
promise to our families, communities and Nation
And
in the fight to preserve our precious freedom –
We will never falter, Nor will we ever fail
We
pray too for our own Nation
To
be always one Nation under God
And
be always proud to show her colors
And
to our foes – On Me Not Trod
We
also pray for the safety of the military now deployed
Who
fight and defend us from what evil wishers do
We
will send a strong message to our enemies
It
will take much more than 9-11 to bring down
The Red, the White and Blue
For
this is a wake up call and a challenge
To
show our courage, resolve and love profound
And
prove that sowing the seeds of love and service
Will
make this world in peacefulness abound
But
now in solemn memory of those four fateful flights
For
lives lost at Ground Zero, a Pennsylvania field and
Pentagon as well
I
ask you in your own personal moments of silence
To
pray for each – in their memory – as I softly toll the bell……Amen
