THIS WEEK'S MEETING

President Gary Green called the meeting to order followed by a Peter McGuire trio of Pledge, Invocation (“If” by Rudyard Kipling) and Introduction of Guests and Visiting Rotarians.  Somewhere in there, Carol Jensen and Tom Sayer led the group in “God Bless America.”

Announcements

Ø      Don’t forget tomorrow (Thursday, October 3rd) is the Beehive at the Old Town Theatre.

Ø      We have 45-members and 8 Rotaracters signed up for the District Council Meeting hosted by our Club on October 8th.  Gary has asked us all to arrive at the La Jolla Marriott at 5 pm so that we can be in full force to check people in, hand out parking stickers and, of course, sell raffle tickets to the “T Us Off” Golf Tournament.  In keeping with our patriotric theme this year, Joe Ciokon will lead the pledge, Dave Ferguson will deliver the invocation, and Linda Jalving will sing.  Jennifer Cusick will then give a run-down of International Service projects and Gary will take over with the rest of our Club’s service work.  We will celebrate our 13th Anniversary as a Club at this meeting and we sort of expect that Gary might make a small plug for the golf tournament somewhere along the line as well.  This is our Club’s first opportunity to really show off in front of the District.  Hope to see you all there!

Ø      After the initial success of our Club in raising money for Wheelchairs for Malawie, Sig Weitzman has pledged to go outside of our Club with the lofty goal of raising a total of $5,000.  He already has support from the police department and the Play Directors’ Guild, but he is asking for anyone with contacts at any other organizations to step forward and help out with this very worth goal.

Ø      Don’t forget the Rotaract fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes on October 24th at 6:30 at Lilo’s in the Gaslamp.  Please buy a ticket or some raffle tickets to support this event.  Click Here For Flyer.

Ø      Gary continued to promote the upcoming “Tee Us Off” Golf Tournament Fundraiser to be held at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course starting at 11:30 a.m. on November 15, 2002.  A wide range of sponsorship opportunities are still available.  Gary promises that Super Bowl tickets will be secured for the grand prize of the raffle drawing.  Click Here For Flyer.

This Weeks Fines

Lou was absent, but Gary presided over some sua sponte brags and bitches.  Jennifer Cusick will be changing her last name soon, due to her impending marriage to Steve Grebing.  Joe Ciokon apologized for the traffic on the Coronado Bridge which is being caused, in no small part, to the presence of four aircraft carriers in port at one time.  Margaret Oppliger has been 2-weeks at a new job and is taking off for 3-weeks to climb the Alps.  I want that kind of job!  Mike Lewis paid a fine for his trout fishing trip to Colorado (at least he brought back a flag from the Vali Eagle rotary Club).  And Tom Sayer bragged about son Evan’s scholarly exploits.

NEW MEMBER

L-R: Gary Green, Linda Spuck and Mike Jones

Mike Jones stepped up with yet another encore performance from last week to induct one more new Rotarian to the San Diego Breakfast Rotary Club (14 this year!!).  Linda Spuck is the Director of Development for the San Diego Rescue Mission.  She is a former member of the Rotary Club in Lancaster, PA where she served as Chair of the Fundraising Committee.  She is active in the Junior League and enoys traveling.  Welcome, Linda, to our Club!

This Week's Speaker

Boaz Rauchwerger got the group moving early with his, “I’ve Come to Fire You Up” torch trick.  By putting the flame out in his mouth, he reminded us that fear is nothing more than False Emotions Appearing Real.  The self-proclaimed best in the world at changing minds and attitudes, Boaz broke the ice with a few poignant stories en-route to educating us on the Tiberias Success Formula:

Affirmations.  First thing in the morning and last thing at night, speak a positive affirmation of what you want to change in your life.  For time management consider the following: “I am an expert at manating my time.  I always do the most valuable thing first and quickly.”  The key is to avoid perpetuating that which you do not want.  Look (and speak) the good and disregard the bad.

31-day Charge.  Put down the newspaper and turn off the TV news shows in the morning and listen to a positive motivational tape instead.  Try it for 31-days.

Readings.  Two Books:  How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie and Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  One page in each every day is all he asks.  Boaz has read each 60-times (once a month for 5-years).

Exercises.  Start with as little as a 15-minute walk once a week, but put it on the calendar and stick to it!

Fortune Fund.  Something about expecting strangers to give you money and they will.

Action.  Take some kind of action to move your program forward.

Very interesting and very energetic!  Thank you, Boaz, for taking the time to bring your formula to our Club!
