This Week’s Meeting And AnnouncementS
Beautiful Clear and Sunny Day with a visibility of 100 miles Coronado Islands clearly visible from high atop the Copley Towers.
The Rotary Club Meeting was called to order by its president Gary Green at 7:25 AM on the Dot. Gary provided a brief recap of the “Polio Tees Us Off” Golf Tournament. Thanking all club participants, contributors, sponsors, friends, and Rotaract helpers. Gary gave a special thank you to “the most organized woman I have ever met: Carol Jensen who made the entire tournament day a relatively easy day. Bottom line: By Gary’s math the club made $28,000 plus or minus using the matching grants from the Gate Foundation and the World health Organization the Rotary Breakfast Club of Downtown San Diego contributed $148,000 dollars to defeat polio world-wide. Congratulations to Gary Green for his drive and enthusiasm and leadership to make this happen in such a short time. The Club gave a standing ovation to Gary who finally had to wave the crowd off.
Carol Jensen led the club in the pledge.
Choir leader: Jim Mulvaney and the Club Vocalist: Linda Jalving lead the club in a rousing rendition of America the Beautiful (at an octave too high for most tenors).
In attendance were 18 guests of which 5 were from Club 33.
Mike Lewis presented the Responsibility Program report and handed out letters to Santa from 86 children from the Tijuana Dump. The participants each purchase 3 presents requested by the boys and girls who participated and sent letters to Santa listing the 3 presents that they want. If you are participating, the presents must be brought to the Club meeting on the 11th for delivery to Tijuana.

Carol Jensen Introduced the San Diego High School Student of the Month: Jennifer Wood and her French Teacher Helen Cardoza. Mike Mulvaney spoke about Jennifer’s curricula and extracurricular activities.
Jennifer is planning to study in France on Graduation and is interested in Religion, Theology and Psychology.

Mike Jones and Jim Mulvaney introduced Brad Leitch who was inducted into the Club. That makes 18 since the beginning of this Rotary year in July.

The Speaker was Chris Kramer Founder of the Karl Straus Brewery of San Diego. Karl Straus (Uncle Karl to Chris) is a world famous Master Brewer who is the former master brewer for Pabst of Milwaukee. Chris provided a 25-minute description of the process his partner and he used to develop Karl Straus Brewery. A great delivery of a Classic Entrepreneurial Approach to business planning as learned at Stanford University

The plan has been validated and Karl Straus is the largest microbrewery in Southern California with Six Brewery Restaurants, 25 % growth per year, 20 million is sales in 2001.
