Speaker
|
|
This week’s speaker was Cynthia L. Goodman, Interim Executive Director for the Foundation for the Children of the Californias, a California non-profit corporation. Cindy was introduced by Steve Waterman. The Foundation is dedicated to the development of a pediatric hospital serving Tijuana and Baja California generally. The Foundation has already completed the first phase of the project, the “Hospital Infantile de los Californias” and has ambitious plans to construct an additional facility, brining the capacity to 82 beds. The hospital, with 150 physicians devoting time and a total staff of more than 300, is able to provide quality pediatric care and wellness programs at a fraction of the cost here in the United States. Only 20% of the staff is paid for their services. Three foundations, one located in the United States, one in Canada, and one in Mexico, provide support. There are also programs for training health care professionals and many other services and facilities are planned for the future. The goal of the organization is focused on keeping kids well. Cindy also told us about the founder of the organization, Betty Jones.
Gary presented the Foundation with a check from the
Downtown Breakfast Rotary in the amount of $1,500. Click Here For Website.
Closing
Gary noted that next week’s speaker will be Lois Olson, a professor at San Diego State, who will be speaking on the China International Marketplace.
