Guest Speaker:
Today’s guest speaker was Sheila Harden, manager of community relations for Center City Development Corp (CCDC). CCDC was formed in 1975 and is responsible for planning and urban design in the downtown area. Sheila spoke about the vision for downtown. She shared that CCDC would like to see our downtown turn into a 24 hr. city modeled on a smaller scale after the likes of Paris and New York city. She also surprised most of us with her statement that currently there are 8,000 new condos and apartments under construction in downtown ranging from low income housing to $5,000,000 penthouses. According to Sheila, downtown will continue to evolve and be a big reason why San Diego has the reputation as America’s finest city.
