Vietnam Veterans Stand down

Frank and Bill Poirier

The Rotary Crew

It was a very rewarding and fun experience for those members who were able to attend this year’s Stand-Down event.  Joe Ciokon and the other folks responsible for this event are to be congratulated for an extremely well run and beneficial event.  Many of the Vets coming through the breakfast line thanked us for our effort.  I could not help but wonder what type of life these men and women might have had if they were not involved in that misbegotten war.

Our Rotary chapter was well represented by about 10 members per day.  I would list them, but I fear leaving some one out.  Suffice it to say that those there know who they are.  However it is good to report that our past, present and future leaders not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.  Our Benevolent despot, Frank De Francesco, displayed true leader ship qualities on Saturday with team B as did future Dictator for Life, Ron Erbetta with team A. Past demigod, Gary Green, entertained the troops on Sunday as only he can.  It was amazing how many folks coming through the breakfast line said they knew him.

For me personally it was an eye opening experience and I am proud at the way our chapter members pitched in and helped give some relief to those not as fortunate as us.
