Ø Mike Sisson celebrated his 1st wedding anniversary this week. As opposed to Bill Poirier, he has not been sleeping on the couch!
Ø Despite the presence of ample peace officers, Bill went ahead with his quite public gambling card game fundraiser, and Gary Green picked the 4 of Aces for $26.
Ø Tom Sayer (aka FlagMan) described his strenuous hike up to the summit and beyond in the El Capitan Open Space Preserve (near Barona casino) and his helicopter ride off the mountain. Cindy Davis is a Deputy City Attorney with the San Diego Attorney’s Office. She is a Deputy in the Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit. As a Deputy city Attorney, she prosecutes consumer fraud including Internet fraud, business related fraud – including false advertising, and identity theft. She has also published numerous consumer-related articles and serves as the “Consumer Watchdog Reporter” for Décor and Style Magazine.
Fastest growing crime in California. 4 people in group have had it happen. Not a matter of if but when it will happen. #1 consumer complaint.
Non-violent, white collar, lower penalty, anonymous, no witness, only 11% solved.
Ø Take over credit card account.
Ø True name identity theft. New credit, home equity, cell phones and cards.
Ø Committing crimes in your name.
Ø One way is your mail, annual statement, SSN, they put on change of mail for you.
Ø Dumpster diving.
Ø Fishing; get an email, looks like AOL, Ebay, to get you to update your file.
Ø Steal wallet.
Ø Internet hacking.
Ø Cox; insiders get numbers too.
Ø Credit Card skimmer available on Internet.
Ø Mailbox theft and fishing
Ø Job search, employment scan, (Monster knockoff) to gather identity
Ø ATM; looking over shoulder.
Ø Don’t respond to email request for personal information.
Ø Buy a shredder (cross cut).
Ø Take mail to post office; get locked home mailbox.
Ø Never, never give personal information on phone.
Ø Carry only one credit card.
Ø Copy all information in your wallet (front and back), put in safe place.
Ø Order your credit report once a year, look for unknown debt.
Ø Watch for your new credit card when one expires.
Ø Opt out of sharing information regarding information sharing.
Ø Call in a theft immediately.
Ø Check your charges on credit card once a week.
