this week’s meeting

The weekly meeting was started with the pledge by Larry Nuffer and moving thoughts about making the world a better place by Mel Gallegos.  Linda Jalving capitalized on that and made us smile by singing “Zipidee Doo Da” (thanks to Ken Tablang for the spelling assistance).  Attendance was better than ever including visiting members from Club 33 (including our honorary member Jerry) and Golden Triangle – guests included a beautiful wife, detective, the John Adams and a judge – just missing Professor Plum.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø      Duane Horning reminded us of our commitment to St. Vincent De Paul’s Career Fair on February 7, 2004 and also urged members to bring donations of professional clothing to the next meeting.

THIS WEEK’S SPEAKER

Bill Seaton, Historian and Comedian entertained us with his past experience and anecdotes including in his recent book “Humorous Letters from the Edge.”  His primary message is that laughing improves your health.  He definitely had the crowd doing some “internal jogging” and also provided us with some helpful statistics on diabetes, strokes and gum disease as it relates to humor.  That combined with come camel wrestling and crouch painting stories kept us thoroughly amused.  All sports fans related to comment regarding Chargers in 1983 .. if you try harder…long enough… still lose.

His final note was to “extend your life – read his book” and die laughing.  Many members took him up on this by purchasing his book for $10 as they left the meeting.
