THIS WEEK’S SPEAKER

Susan Bleicher introduced Retired Rear Admiral Mac McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer of The Midway Museum, which will be the world’s largest navel museum.  Admiral McLaughlin graduated from the U.S Navel Academy in 1972, and obtained his Master’s Degree in Public Relations from Troy State University.  His achievements in the Navy have been highly recognized. He received the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals.

As a COO of Midway his ultimate goal is to create a historical world-class Navel Museum.  Additionally, his goal is to create a focus at the museum for education in math and sciences.  He proposes to achieve this goal through the use of interactive applications (visual and physical effects).  The museum ultimately could link with high tech high schools and help underprivileged students.

Retired Rear Admiral Mac McLaughlin announced donations and acquisitions including:  the real estate site for the museum, corporate sponsorship, as well as the governmental support from the County of San Diego.  He stressed that Volunteers will be relied upon to support the building and operation of the Navel Museum.

A current fundraising goal is to fund modernizing the ship with telephone and computer hookups. If any member would be like to contribute please go to the website of www.midway.org.
