THIS WEEK’S MEETING
President Ron again discussed the weather in Marble Head, Mass and led us in the 27th meeting of the Rotary Centennial Year. The invocation was done by Mel Gallegos. The “Row Your Boat” medley was salvaged! Visiting Rotarians and guests were introduced.

Ø There was a raffle for Midway “Special Tour” tickets which went for $50
Announcements
Ø An update on the Rotary Foundation was done. So far 106 million has been raised and 86 million has been donated.

Frank De Francesco. was drumming up support for
the Rotary “Mardi Gras” District 5340 Conference on 2/4 and
2/5/2005 in
Ø District Council meeting will be on 2/22/2005 at the La Jolla Marriott. The club will pay for your dinner if you go, you will pay if you no show!
Ø Cynthia Sener is still looking for that great Rotary support and business experience to assist in a Career Fair on January 29th at St. Vincent de Paul Village. Legally we are covered with experience, but other vocations are encouraged to sign up! Also donations of business attire from your closets would be more than welcomed and very helpful.
Ø Alexandra Kwoka reported on our clubs involvement in the San Diego River Project. There will be great hands on clean up project taking place on 2/12/2005 from 9am to 12 noon at the Bird Nesting Area.

This Week’s Program
Our Club was very fortunate to have Deborah Szekely speak. Deborah Szekely credits volunteerism as the catalyst for her growth and international impact. Her volunteer efforts have been widely recognized by scores of awards including: "Woman of the Year" by Women in Management (1987); The President's Council of Women's Services (1982) and San Diego City Club (1978). She was also named "Benefactor of the Year" by Traveler's Aid Society of San Diego (1983) and "Volunteer of the Year" by the National Society of Fund Raiser Executives (1979).
Many know Deborah Szekely as founder of the world known and world class health spas: the Golden Door (1958); Rancho La Puerta (1940) and Fitness Resorts (1972). She began The Szekely Foundation for American Volunteerism, in 1982.
Her dedicated role as President and CEO of the
Inter-American Foundation is Mrs. Szekely's current mission. (To support the
self-help efforts of the poor people in Latin America and the

international management consultant, special government advisor to encourage
corporate volunteerism, author of several globally read and distributed books,
a national and international lecturer, educator, educational consultant, and
internationally recognized fitness expert, serving as U.S. Delegate to the
UNESCO Conference on Fitness in 1977. Deborah Szekely is truly a Renaissance
woman.
She talked on accepting your partnership with your body. How the calandar was a very important tool. She recommends you find a Sabbath where you can stop and reflect. She preached that “experience is how you use it” and that “life is too busy to be on autopilot.”
