THIS WEEK’S MEETING

President Ron called the meeting to order.  Jerri Malana provided the invocation and Bobbi Spinner-Flack led us in the pledge.  Jim Mulvaney and Linda led us in the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Program

Our program today was the Regional Finalists of the 4 Way Speech Contest, moderated by Bill Smelko, District Chair of the contest and Member of the Rotary Club of La Mesa.

We heard a patriotic presentation on supporting our troops and veterans. This was the 1st place winner. We also heard about funding for school programs, the Bill of Rights and the ethics of genetic engineering and ‘designer babies.’

Bill Smelko presented Nancy Vaughan with a designer-one of a kind Tshirt as a token of his gratitude for her assistance with this contest over the years. I can hardly wait to get mine.

Our VIP judges for the event were Sandee Rugg, John Addams, George Thomas, David Dains and a real judge, the Hon. J. Richard Haden.

While the judging took place, guests and visiting Rotarians were introduced.

Mike Gilligan sold all of the squares and drew the numbers for the basketball finals. I am quite certain he works at a casino on weekends.
