This Week’s Meeting

Frank De Francesco, pinch hitting for Ron, called the meeting to order by calling on Sandy Rugg for the invocation and Joe Marshall for the pledge.  Linda Jalving led us in our rendition of America the Beautiful.  Guests were introduced.

Announcements

Ø      Maureen Eberle asked for more volunteers to complete the fantastic makeover for Everlena's house for this Saturday morning.  She congratulated Dave Dawson on his comprehensive organization of this effort and his many hours off work to do so.

Ø      Lynn Hamilton reminded us there are still a few places on the roster of bowlers for the Mira Mesa Bowl event for Friday May 20, 7-9 pm to be followed by refreshments at the El Torito.

Ø      The Senior Community Center Heroes Lunch on May 13 has places available through Carol Jensen.

Ø      Jeff Miller, on behalf of Rotaract, announced the Ace of Hearts casino night event at the Sidebar, 536 Market St., downtown for May 12,  7-10 pm.

Ø      Mike Gilligan did his usual good job on fines, followed by the Induction of Arthur Schwartz, a sales performance management consultant and North Park resident who welcomes the opportunity to join our members in service projects and whom we welcome warmly into the fold.

This Week’s Speaker

Rob Barry introduced our speaker of the day, Mr.. Mark Romano, CFA, Senior Vice President and account manager for PIMCO.  Is your portfolio ready for the next decade?  Mark spoke to issues such as diversification of that portfolio from investment in San Diego real estate and Qualcomm stock into incorporating some other asset classes such as emerging market debt, commodities, TIPS composite, and bonds including European bonds.  Bonds were discussed as having benefited from declining yields and having hypothetical long-term return prospects that are attractive even if interest rates continue to rise.
