Announcements
Ø Maureen reminded everyone to pick up their theme pins if they have not done that yet.
Ø Joe Ciokon and Gary Green filled us in on last weekend’s “Stand Down.” The “Stand Down” was a huge success, serving breakfast to over 900 veterans and 50 children. They were able to immediately place one mother and her children in an apartment for that night and will hopefully place another one within the next few days.
Ø 94 people have signed up for committees. We want 100% committee participation so if you haven’t signed up, please do so!
Ø District Council meeting will be July 27th please make sure to attend!
Program
District
Governor Bob Watson joined us today. Bob
started of by telling us about the year theme for Rotary, “Service Above
Self.” This theme will outline
this year and will also outline our lifetimes.
Bob also asked us to move away from the typical Rotary acronyms and
shortcuts. Membership and how to keep
existing members within Rotary was a large part of Bob’s
presentation. He asked us to really try
and get the Rotary story out to the people and show the world what it’s
really all about. He explained his goals
of making an impact on the community by asking every one of us to do,
“Sweet Equity.” “Get
out and put your hands on something.”
Make an impact. This led into
Bob’s goal for, “Rotarian’s at work day.” On April 29, 2005 all Rotarians are being asked
to attend a project. Our club is
possibly participating in the “Rebuild San Diego” project but
nothing is set yet. Bob finished up by
encouraging all of the members to attend the District Conference (No date set
yet).
