THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Ron Erbetta, past President, filled in for Maureen Eberle, current President, who is traveling somewhere.  A video of the District Gala was shown.  After the invocation and pledge, given and lead by two of our more popular members, the club inducted 2 new members.

Elena Bazhenova, who was proposed by Sandra Schrift. Elena is an immigration attorney. Elena will be a hard working addition to the club and is very happy to be here. Photos were taken and as usual only the top of Ron’s head appeared in them.

Chris Carstens, proposed by Joe Marshall.  Chris is a child psychologist and should have a large following in the club. He pleased one and all with the shortest acceptance speech ever. I guess he is good at judging attention spans.

Welcome to both of these new members, now go forth and join a committee.

THIS WEEK’S SPEAKER

Our speaker was Dr. Iris Engstrand, Professor of History and the University of San Diego. She spoke of the history of America’s finest city and it’s Spanish heritage.

She traced the journey of Cabrillo, spoke of the indigenous Indians, who still own more land in San Diego County than any other California county. We also learned who Horton Plaza is named after and many other little known facts.

For a more complete history , her book, “San Diego, California’s Cornerstone” is available.

Ron Reached up and rang the bell promptly at 0832.
