This Week’s Bulletin Was Written By Rachel G. Humphreys

THIS WEEK’S MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by President Maureen Eberle as she looked out to crowd decked in red, white and blue in honor of our military men and women, and reminded us of a shared mission: Service Above Self.

VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

Our very special guests this week received the a standing ovation:

Captain Paula Hayes, Staff Sergeant Sean Genny, Lieutenant Corporal Michael Kennedy, Lieutenant Corporal Danielle Orsen, Lieutenant Corporal Douglas Ayenga, Corporal Nick Babernes.

SEARGENT AT ARMS

It’s Bill Poirier’s anniversary ladies and gentleman, and Larry Nuffer did an impressive job of raking in the cash, capitalizing on several anniversaries!

POP QUIZ!

As promised, Leah Swearingen gave us our first pop quiz on the Ten (or Eleven) Things That Every Rotarian Ought To Know.  How big is Rotary?  Huge?  Gigante?  Dave Archambault responded within the right ballpark.  The right answer: 1.2 million Rotarians world-wide, 32,000 Clubs in 168 countries, and 529 Rotary International Districts.  This is the first in a series of pop quizzes, so each Rotarian should be prepared to be in the hot seat next time!

THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

Nancy Vaughn introduced SSGT. Cheney and Capt Paola Hayes who gave an incredibly memorable speech about the front-line work of our military in Iraq. They run the Med Hold Unit at Balboa Hospital for wounded soldiers. Several of the heroes who have put their lives on the line and have sustained significant injuries were present.  They conveyed a message of strong hope, telling us of the progress he has witnessed first hand there.  They spoke of the new schools and hospitals being erected, for example, and new freedoms too-often downplayed in our media.

Each soldier present has made a choice to go back out on the front line as soon as they are able- a true testament to their courage and bravery!!  Maureen extended an invitation that any soldiers are more than welcome as guests of our breakfast anytime they choose!
