UPDATE ON THE SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTER

Paul Downey from the Senior Community Center thanked Breakfast Club for continuing help and support.  He indicated that more and more seniors in San Diego need help in obtaining affordable housing.  Pickwick Hotel is evicting over 200 seniors.  A lot of seniors downtown sleep behind dumpsters.  Senior Community Center has been a great success.  They just got a $ 20,000,000.00 tax credit.  Their next project – construction of 150 units in City Heights.

THIS WEEK’S SPEAKER

Nancy Vaughan introduced this week’s speaker Michael Shames – a prominent San Diego attorney and consumer advocate.  Michael leads a consumer group UCAN (Utility Consumers’ Action Network).  This group has been known for protecting consumers in the areas of gas prices, internet activities, telephone services, auto insurance.  Michael pointed out that 21 Century changed consumer market rules.  Consumers nowadays have to be computer literate, fast, flexible and skeptical.  With new exciting products, like super PDAs, broadband power lines, cars and houses on fuel cells, this market brings the dangers of fraud and ID theft.  So, buyers beware more than ever.
