THIS WEEK’S MEETING

This week’s meeting started with an invocation by Abbi Kelly and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Susan Bleicher.

Announcements

Ø      Gary Green sported some attractive jewelry brought by Ofelial Nieto and Elsa Urzua to promote the Foundation For Women, a Rotary-sponsored Microcredit enterprise that provides small loans to impoverished women and those with disease.  Sales were brisk before and after the meeting at their table displaying an assortment of these gift items.

Ø      Dan Fissori started the distribution of the Responsibility Project Letters to Santa.  Half the letters were picked up today, so there will be plenty more at the next meeting.  Drop off will be no later than the December 14th meeting.  Remember that the gifts should NOT be wrapped, and should be delivered in their original packaging.  PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LETTER, ITSELF.

Ø      Maureen encouraged us all to invite a soldier to Thanksgiving dinner.  Either call Camp Pendleton (760-725-4001), or contact Sergeant Cheney or Captain Paola Hayes from Balboa Hospital (619-532-6400).

Ø      We will be serving lunch and carolling at the Senior Center on December 3rd.

Ø      Pat Cowett reminded everyone that our annual Holiday Party will be Friday, December 9th at Susan Davis’ home from 5 pm to ??

Ø      Matt McGowan has answered the call and will be hosting a German student in his home.  Let’s hope he comes to one of our meetings!

Ø      Jennifer Grebing is doing well.  She changed jobs from trial attorney to stay-at-home mom and has never worked so hard!  Her Christmas wish list includes: adult conversation, going somewhere where she can wear something other than jeans, and just coffee with a friend!  Charlie (3-mos.) and Olivia (21-mos.) are doing just fine.  Jennifer hopes to be back with us in January.

Ø      Lynn Hamilton reported that the International Services Committee has approved a contribution of $1,000 to the Pakistan relief effort, and will be making a donation of $5-7,000 for medicine to the children suffering from AIDS in Africa.  With matching grants, this donation will reach $20,000.  Next on the agenda, providing funds for a clinic as described last week by Suresh Subramanian of the Power of Love Foundation.
