Ø Sgt. At Arms Larry Nuffer announced Sandy Rugg as the winner of last weeks Oscars’ lottery.
Ø Girl Scout cookies and coffee were auctioned.
Ø George Mullen was fined for penning an article in the UT regarding the “Bubble Economy.”
Ø Portions of the Humane Society telethon were shown at the meeting, most notably our club’s donation of $1,000 (via gigantic check).

BLUE BADGES: Jay Sener gave blue badges
to Brad Benter, Scott Silver-Hill and Steve Seligmann.
Ø PINS: Carol Jensen to debut next year’s “Lead the Way” Rotary pin.
Ø ROTARACT: Next week is “World Rotaract Week.” Rotaractians (Rotaracti?) will join us at next week’s meeting.

Ø PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS: Ron Erbetta reports that matching PH grants are now doubled such that for every $100 contributed, an additional $200 will be matched (total of $300) towards a Paul Harris Fellowship.
Ø CLOTHES DRIVE: Karen Green is collecting professional attire on behalf of St. Vincent de Paul’s career center. Don’t wait for double-breasted suits to come back into style, just donate it now while someone can use it. Bring all items to next week’s meeting (3/15).
Ø WOMEN’S RESOURCE FAIR: Heather Xitco reported enormous success at the Women’s Resource Fair, held the past Saturday. Women facing homelessness and domestic violence issues were assisted with basic services, including medical assistance, legal services, employment opportunities and vocational rehabilitation, along with counseling and assistance with obtaining other vitally needed services.
Ø FUNDRAISER NEWS: Pat Cowett, Mary Engles and Caroline Chen made a pitch for auction items for the upcoming fundraiser. We’re aiming for 100% participation and have organized a competition between red and blue badgers (i.e. Who will get 100% first?). Currently, the club is sitting pretty at 14%. We also need larger items for the live auction. Bring pledged items to the meeting as soon as possible and no later than April 15. Vendors may produce their donations by April 21.

Ø ESSAYS/HOMEWORK: The District would like us to submit essays from Rotarians who have been Rotarians for 2 or less years... about why you joined Rotary, or something that made a big impact on you with Rotary, or why you appreciate our club, or a project that meant a lot to you, why you joined Rotary... something like that. For those that qualify, Maureen asks that we email her our essays by March 20. maureen.eberle@visitsandiego.com
Ø OLD NEWS: Maureen called out for volunteers for the District Meeting scheduled for May 27th. Volunteers are needed for Beverage, Beer, Raffle and Registration Coordinators. Cynthia Sener has volunteered to handle Display Coordinator duties. Please forward pictures to her.
Ø OLD NEWS: Wine Tasting Event to meet Red Badge-folk is scheduled for March 9th. 41 people have signed up for a cost of $7.00 per person. Red Badge can participate for free.

OLD NEWS: March 9th Maureen will be the
guest speaker for Rotary Club 33.

Marye Anne Fox, the Chancellor of UCSD, discussed the University’s current status as renowned institution of both learning and research. Despite all attention being focused on UCSD, Leah Swearingen made a shameless plug for the UT Longhorns.
